Individuals who are developmentally delayed receive a specific assessment, The Abel-Blasingame Assessment System for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, that takes into consideration their cognitive limitations. If the recommendation is for group treatment, the individual is referred to our specialized, weekly cognitive behavioral treatment program that is tailored to helping offenders understand their inappropriate sexual behaviors and how to control the urges to act on them in the future.
New Directions has a bilingual staff. The Spanish speaking offender is assessed in his native language. A Spanish speaking group is available if it is recommended for the offender.
